 MINISTRY PROFILE

Bethany Bible Church recently celebrated 50 years of ministry in the Belleville Michigan community, having located to its present site in 1959.  The church was first known as Bethany Community Church. Then later as Bethany Baptist Church, and in 1984, changed its name to Bethany Bible Church.  We are an independent non-denominational evangelical congregational-governed body.  We are affiliated (via membership) with the Independent Fundamental Churches of America.

Our Sunday morning 11:00AM worship service is comprised of mostly a contemporary style of worship with relevant life application messages.  Our Sunday morning attendance typically varies between 150-200.  Our Sunday School starts at 9:45AM.  We have small group ministry on Sunday nights at 6:00PM and our Wednesday night “Life on Purpose” service starts at 7:00PM.  This service is more traditional in nature focusing on prayer, audience interaction and teaching.  Our Youth Group (Teens) and College & Career Group also meet on Wednesday nights.

Our Choir sings during each Sunday morning worship service (except for summer months) and has a long-standing ministry in both the church and community.

Our youth group is led by a team of volunteers and averages about 20-30 teens in attendance each week.  They annually participate in off-site youth retreats, and have been involved in short-term mission trips.

Bethany has had a tradition for strong missionary emphasis for many years, currently supporting more than 20 family and / or missionary organizations.  Several couples and / or families have gone out to full-time missionary ministries in recent years.  The Church has also participated in short term missionary ventures.

Monday night is AWANA night.  This boys and girls Bible club emphasizes scripture memorization and includes Bible stories, praise and worship singing and game time.  Weekly attendance is between 90-100 kids, kindergarten through 6th grade. Many children commit their lives to Christ through the AWANA program each year.  Parents are welcome to come to AWANA and periodic events are planned and geared for parent participation.

Perhaps the most significant ministry in terms of outreach is our Day Care Center, which started in 1974.  It has grown to an enrollment in excess of 200 children with multiple pre-school sessions, a morning and afternoon kindergarten class, and a waiting list of nearly 2 years for some classes.  Here we have the freedom to teach God’s Word, without apology.  We host 5-day clubs, Release-Time classes for the neighboring elementary school, and feed into our own AWANA and Sunday School programs.  We have regular outreach dinners for the parents to get to know them and have a time of fellowship with them outside of watching their children.  The Day Care Center has an excellent reputation in the community, and has served as an invaluable first contact into the lives of many of our church families, both past and current.

Belleville is a small town with a population of 3,500 people.  It is surrounded by Van Buren Township, which has a population of approximately 30,000 people. Belleville is a located about 30 miles west of Detroit, within Wayne County.

The church sits just outside the Belleville City limits on approximately seven (7) acres of land.  The auditorium seats 240 people.  It is entered through ample hallways and a “fellowship foyer” area at the rear.  Also located in the original building are offices for pastors and secretarial staff, infant nursery, library/board and meeting room, adult classrooms, and a large (24` x 45`) teen room.  The second portion of our facility is a 60` x 100` multi-purpose gymnasium with kitchen, and storage area.  The third area is our Family Ministry Center; an 8,000 sq. ft. educational wing built in 1998.  This has five large classroom (dividable), Day Care and AWANA offices, Great Room and kitchen, used for more intimate dinner settings (showers, etc.).  Two small playgrounds also surround this portion of the building and a softball field is located to the rear of the property.  We are grateful for the campus that God has blessed our ministry with.

Thank you for taking the time to read the ministry profile of Bethany Bible Church.  We pray that God will continue to use us as a light in our community and throughout the world.
